Behold! My first major piece of this year is taking form!
I'm making a tree out of wires and plastic tubing. It is now taller than me, which makes it hard to work on the top branches... The wires are glued to the piping using some kind of crazy green glue and held in place with masking tape while it dries. Masking tape is so awesome. Another interesting point: the base is made from a pipe welded onto a brake disk! I thought that was cool. I had to pack the inside of the large pipe with polystyrene foam so it would stand up straight on the base, that took a while (and it was pretty messy)! Oh, and see those mannequins in the background? I've painted them with liquid latex, which dries like a rubbery skin. I'm thinking of draping that, once I peel it off, onto the branches or somewhere on the piece. I need to add more wires and cables, maybe add more branches, and at least make them go where I want them to, dammit! I'm already behind schedule...
I like how the tree stands so straight, kinda like a lamp-post or something, representing the accuracy of today's technology and architecture. Yet the wires aren't perfectly straight, like the veins in a real plant. Oooh, deep
This piece is exploring the connection between technology, how it is incorporated with our lives, and nature (trees in particular - this explains some of my past deviations), which seems to be getting replaced nowadays...

This newsletter was "born" back in March 2007, from a conversation between ~Lareth and =FrozenStarRo, who with the help of their friends *Iardacil and =Sylwiaa , wanted to make something to promote known and unknown photomanipulators alike here on DeviantArt. As of September 2009 =ImaginaryRosse joined the project and will be helping us out with the weekly choices. While things have changed over time, the essence of the newsletter is still the same. As of recent, the talented =Behana has joined us in bringing you this weekly newsletter and we are excited to have her on board. This is a special feature, with a selection of 50 manips from the past year that we loved.
